Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is the site of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, the last battle of the Creek War on March 27, 1814. This park, located just east of Alexander City, Alabama, is one of the four dedicated 'War of 1812' parks in the National Park System. The others are Fort McHenry National Monument in Baltimore, Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial in Ohio, and Chalmette National Battlefield in New Orleans. On the morning of 27 March 1814, General Andrew Jackson and an army of 3300 men consisting of Tennessee militia, United States regulars and both Cherokee and Lower Creek allies attacked Chief Menawa and 1000 Upper Creek or Red Stick warriors fortified in the "horseshoe" bend of the Tallapoosa River. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park conducts reenactments of different phases of the battle on the forth Saturday of each month. These activities are fun and educational. They start around 10am and go to 5pm. My daughter and I drove up to watch the activities recently. Unfortunately, about a half hour after our arrival things were called off because of severe thunderstorms in area. In fact, if you listen close to the reenactment video you can hear all the thundering and wind blowing. We hope to go back and update you soon. Better still, join us there. This video is part of a two-part series of videos on the reenactment of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Battle of Horseshoe Bend -- Revisited www.youtube.com Battle of Horseshoe Bend -- The ...

Greenville, Alabama -- Train Depot Greenville, know as the Camellia City, is the county seat of Butler County, Alabama. At the 2000 census, the population was 7228. The town lies between Montgomery and Mobile, Alabama, along the area of Interstate 65 known as the "Lost Highway" in honor of Country Singer Hank Williams, Sr. Greenville was first settled in 1819. Immigrants named it Greenville due to the forests of oak trees that reminded them of their former home in Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville's original name was Buttsville. After becoming the county seat in 1822, its name was changed to Greenville, in remembrance of the former locale in South Carolina of many of the original settlers. The first county seat was at Fort Dale, a fortification that was named for Sam Dale, who fought to defend the area during the Creek Indian War. Shaul Zislin and his wife visited Gulf Shores, fell instantly in love with its beaches and charm, and decided to move there to build a new life. One of the many facets of that life is The Hangout, a seaside gathering place focusing on family, fun, and bolstering a sense of community. It has become a Gulf Shores institution, a place where locals and visitors can go and just, well, hang out.

Peterman, Alabama - The Visit Peterman, Alabama, a small southern railroad town, is located approximately 7 miles north of Monroeville close to the intersection of Alabama Highways 21/47 and Monroe County Road 30. I did not know anything about Peterman except that my map showed that I had to go through it to get to Burnt Corn, Alabama. But the minute we drove into Peterman, we knew we had found a treasure. Peterman is a town that has not changed much over the past few years. It is like the quaint towns you read about in novels, slow paced with friendly residence.
